A Sunday Drive Through Helen

After a lovely Sunday in the Georgia Mountain Rentals office, I decided to drive through Helen. This was the busiest weekend of Oktoberfest, the third weekend of festivities. Georgia Mountain Rentals was booked solid! There are several gift shops in Helen I like to visit every now and then. Mostly to see if any items on my wish list have gone on sale. Much to my surprise, it seemed as if none of our visitors had left town. We are so happy to welcome you here and then have you not want to leave in such hurry! It was a wonderful sight to see people all ages, nationalities, and races with smiles on their faces, walking, listening to music, taking photos and having a good time. Each outdoor bar I drove by had their own live music, nothing too loud to interfere with the next musician, but just perfect for their particular audiences. From entire families to young couples and groups of friends, the afternoon crowd had a happy energy all about them.I decided to get the full tour and from South Main, I continued to North Main until I reached Betty's Country Store. Turning left at Betty's onto Yonah Street, I traveled one block and took a left on Unicoi Street. This back street is always quiet with a few of you discovering the tranquility of a walk in a Helen neighborhood. One of my favorite gift shops has their own parking, so I was happy I wouldn't have to pay to park for a 15-minute visit. No, my favorite backpack wasn't on sale. I am patient, so will keep an eye out as the season changes. While in Helen, I ran into a friend who reminded me that there is Sunday's Free Festhalle Entrance! That's right, entrance to the Festhalle for Oktoberfest is Free on Sundays! That explains why some guests make this a weekend-long celebration.I should be embarrassed to say that I have not attended an Oktoberfest event, but here and now, I do pledge to be there next Sunday afternoon. There is only one more week of the 47th Annual Oktoberfest food, fun, libations, and dancing, so don't miss it!
